BAG BAG / Lernert & Sander

Introducing the “Bag bag” by Lernert & Sander, an elegant handbag in the shape of the bags under the eyes of Kiki Niesten. Because everyone gets tired of fashion every once and a while.

Lernert Engelberts and Sander Plug are two Dutch artists in Amsterdam. They create high-concept films and installations, with simple but stunning art direction, all driven by their subtly dry, cheeky sense of humour. That is precisely why they designed the bag bag: a handbag in the shape of those little bags that inevitably appear below the eyes of every fashionista.

They found Kiki Niesten, of the eponymous fashion shop in Maastricht, willing to serve as their model. From March 10^th to 19^th, during the TEFAF (The European Fine Art Foundation), the bag bag will be displayed in the shop window. Hanged directly in front of a huge photo of his face, they frame her eyes.

The bag bag was modeled according to the lines beneath one of Niesten’s eyes thanks to a graphic rendition. After prototyping and testing a bunch of possibilities, we found the final aesthetics. The bags are handmade in our NIYONA workshop. We used a leather which has similar structure and patina to the human skin.
